As sustainable finance frameworks evolve, ocean-related investments continue to lack the robust ESG data needed to assess risks and impacts effectively. The Making Oceans Count II (MOC II) project responds to this gap by developing actionable, science-based ocean asset metrics to support investors, regulators, and industries in advancing environmental transitions and protecting marine ecosystems.

This report builds on insights from the MOC II workshop held in Brussels in November 2024, which brought together stakeholders from the European Commission, TNFD, EFRAG, WWF, JPI Oceans, Maersk, DNB, and others. Discussions focused on aligning regulatory and investor needs, integrating biodiversity data, and designing fit-for-purpose, interoperable blue metrics. The findings offer a timely and practical contribution to building transparency and accountability in the blue economy.
